As promised in Part 1 of this post, here is Part 2 of my fave TV shows!
Disclaimer: Again, there are potential spoilers throughout. You have been warned. Apologies if the images are a bit grainy.
*Warnings* [do not take these lightly]: Sex/murder scenes [very graphic], gore, violence, stalking, etc.
This show follows the life of serial killer, and part time blood splatter analyst, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). It’s been a little while since I last got to watch it but I loved it. It’s super gory though – I mean the guy’s a serial killer AND a blood splatter analyst, there’s plenty of blood. The sex scenes are definitely graphic. It definitely gets harder to stomach the further through the seasons you get as the creators did not hold back. Dexter’s character isn’t as one-dimensional as he seems. His character development is one of the main reasons I got so hooked on the show. There are many plot twists and many deaths (as to be expected). The show keeps you on the edge of your seat with one cliff hanger after another. Honestly, Rita (Dexter’s GF, Julie Benz) annoyed me at first but she could grow on you if you stick with it for long enough. Other than Dexter, his sister, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Leann Carpenter) has to be my favourite throughout the show because if anything, she’s the most relatable. If you’re into crime shows and not squeamish, give this show a go! Rating: 4/5.
This show follows a study-group on Greendale community college campus and shows the many antics they get up to. It breaks my heart a bit to say that the show has recently been taken off Netflix. I have no reason for why but my guess is the contract ran out. It’s such a shame, though. The show was hilarious – I managed to get most of the way through Season 3 before it was taken down. It was difficult to pick a favourite character because they all had their own ways about them that made them special. The main characters are: Jeff, Annie, Britta, Shirley, Abed, Troye and Pierce. They all vary in ages and personalities. This show was such good fun to watch and had a feel good factor to it. It was a bit hard to enjoy at first, the beginning of Season 1 wasn’t the best but as it progressed it got better and better. If you have £50 to spare, by all means invest in the boxset if comedies are your thing. Rating: 4/5.
Jane the Virgin
*Warning*: Some basic sex scenes, but nothing overly graphic so take this one with a pinch of salt. It’s pretty tame.
This show follows the life of Jane Villanueva, a religious young Latina woman whose vow to save her virginity until marriage is ruined when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a check-up. Man, this one takes you on one of the most hilarious and heart-wrenching journeys. The narrator, voiced by Anthony Mendez, is one of my favourite characters on the show. The sheer hilarity of some of the things he says give the show the light-hearted humour it needs. Each episode is filled with an element of surprise and the story lines leave you baffled, broken and above all, in love with this show. I find learning about the Latina lifestyle really interesting as I had little to no knowledge of it before I began watching the show. Obviously, it’s quite far-fetched a lot of the time but that’s what makes it so fun and gripping to watch. There’s a constant curiosity of “what’s going to happen next?” I love finding out about the characters individually because every backstory is so unique and it’s great to be able to connect with all the characters as opposed to only finding out about Jane’s life. I just really love this show. Highly recommend, 4.5/5.
Until next time,
